Summary

An exciting job role exists as the Deputy Head Personnel Security (Army) Secretariat (Pers Sy (A) Sec). This role works within the inclusive and innovative Cyber and Security team, part of the Information Directorate within Army Headquarters, Andover. This post is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop and progress their careers working in a diverse and highly capable workforce.

This role is in the Personnel Security (Army) Secretariat (Pers Sy (A) Sec) Team based in Imphal Barracks, York which is part of Counter-Intelligence and Security Branch at Army Headquarters. It is the Army’s focus for national security vetting matters and manages vetting for all Army personnel (Regular, Reserve and Cadets) wherever they are serving to ensure the right people are placed and retained in the right jobs with the right levels of security clearance. The Secretariat’s outputs have security, operational as well as personal significance and impact on the Army’s overall operational capability.

The role of Deputy Head Pers Sy (A) Sec, offers the right candidate the opportunity to become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the management of risk through vetting and be in an influential role across the Army and all Army personnel wherever they may be serving.

Forthcoming strategic and operational changes as to how vetting is structured and managed, along with new systems and procedures, will demand flexibility and adaptability in approach while creating new opportunities to play a significant and influential part in re-shaping how business is done. This post’s outputs will make a vital contribution to assuring and improving the Army's ability to manage the insider threat across its workforce both military and civilian.

Secure behaviours play an integral role in protecting both the UK, and our Armed Forces, against external and internal threats. Through this role, you will have the opportunity to develop a broader understanding of the security risks facing the Army across the personnel domains. You will also become a member of the Government Security Profession, and there are further opportunities for continued professional development.

We are looking for a talented and motivated individual who is a team player and who can lead a team but is equally comfortable working on their own to assure physical, personnel, cyber and information security and ensure confidentiality, integrity and availability of Army operated and managed systems and networks.

The successful candidate must be comfortable engaging with wider Defence, Government, and industry. Occasional travel within the UK will be required but this will rarely demand overnight stays.

The successful candidate will be required to:

Ensure Pers Sy (A) Sec assessments are made on proposed Establishment changes where Vetting changes are proposed
Lead responsibility for publication and maintenance of Army Vetting Policy ensuring it complies with relevant higher level policies and directives
Establish and maintain effective liaison with the Army Personnel Centre and Security and Intelligence Agencies Vetting Organisations, and the MOD Directorate of Security and Resilience
Deputise for Head of Personnel Security Army Secretariat

If you are a strong communicator able to engage with stakeholders across government, work efficiently and at pace, across multiple IT systems and security classifications, we need you!

This post is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to develop and progress their careers. Appropriate training courses will be provided to ensure the candidate has the skills and knowledge required to perform the role. The MOD offers support and development in your career, including training as part of your role. In the Army we are passionate about delivering great things for our people. But we also know you will have a life outside of work; we respect your priorities and are committed to flexible working practices to give you freedom to balance work and life.

(Remote working within this role is something that can be discussed at interview stages or with your future line manager if you are found successful.)
