Do you have the patience, creativity, and resilience to support children with complex communication needs?

The Role

Long Term Futures are working in partnership with a warm and inclusive primary school in Ealing to appoint a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant. The school is seeking a calm, proactive individual to work with two Year 3 pupils who are both diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Both children are pre-verbal and require a structured, highly responsive approach throughout the school day.

Your role will involve a balance of one-on-one tutoring and in-class support, helping the boys engage in tailored learning tasks while managing sensory needs and transitions. While academic progress is important, your focus will also include promoting emotional regulation, attention skills, and independent learning routines.

Responsibilities
- Provide consistent one-on-one support, adapting activities to the children's communication levels
- Use visual aids, structured routines and sensory strategies to reduce anxiety and increase engagement
- Apply gentle, firm behaviour management approaches during moments of dysregulation
- Assist the teacher with lesson planning and delivering small group instruction where appropriate
- Contribute to daily notes and reviews as part of ongoing progress monitoring

What We're Looking For
- Experience supporting children with ASD or pre-verbal communication needs
- Familiarity with Makaton, PECS or visual timetables (preferred but not essential)

- Strong teamwork and communication skills with both staff and families
- Passion for inclusive education and supporting every child's development
