Yorkshire and the Humber Regional Scientific Support Services (RSSS) is seeking to recruit a Control Operator. Successful applicants not appointed to this role, will be held within a ‘waiting pool’ for a period of up to 12 months. During this period, candidates within the pool will, in succession, be offered a position as and when further vacancies arise.
The starting salary for this role is £26,106.00 (pro rata), plus 20% shift allowance and 13.89% weekend enhancement as applicable - with progression to a top of scale pay rate of £28,653.00 (pro rata), plus shift allowance and weekend enhancement.
Within a team of Control Operators, the role will involve the efficient and safe deployment of Crime Scene Investigators (CSI), and other RSSS resources, by receiving, recording, assessing, and processing information regarding requests for specialist crime scene support.
Good knowledge and previous experience of computer systems and databases, including Microsoft Office, is a requirement. The ability to deal with challenging customers, using empathy and understanding, is crucial and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are therefore essential.
West Yorkshire Police will enable you to give the best service possible by developing your forensic knowledge. This will be achieved by spending time with Crime Scene Investigators, attending forensic awareness training, and visiting expert scientific service departments within RSSS.
You will be expected to work a 24-hour, 7-day rotating shift pattern, and will occasionally work from various locations across West Yorkshire.
The Sir Alec Jefferies Building has on-site parking facilities, easy access to the M1 motorway and Wakefield city centre. The facilities are state of the art, boasting in-house specialist laboratories and several expert scientific service departments.
