Summary
Childminders offer professional home-from-home childcare and early education, looking after small groups of children of different ages and from different families. As a Childminder Assistant you will get one-to-one support from the Childminding Manager, a comfortable home setting and a small group of children to look after. Childminders work within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and you will receive training in first aid and safeguarding.
We will be a team of three childminders, working in a dedicated playroom for childminding, plus garden. The setting is less than one mile to our nearest school drop offs, so we always walk to and from school with the minded children. Own car not necessary (we do almost all trips into Camberley and local attractions by bus). Lots of great playgrounds and open spaces within walking distance.
We also bring our own children to work, this option will be available for the right candidate.
Typical tasks include:
• supporting or leading educational games
• conducting activities such as crafts, music and cooking
• preparing the learning environment with resources and displays
• helping with trips and outings (including school runs)
• feeding and changing babies
• observing and assessing children to help their learning
You must
• abide by all policies and procedures in place within the setting at all times and be aware of Ofsted requirements
• help to ensure the setting is a safe environment by following health and safety procedures and checking equipment is safe to use and age appropriate
• be aware of emergency procedures and what procedures are to be followed in the event of an accident or incident
• be aware of infection control and ensure good hygiene standards. This includes assisting with light cleaning in areas used for childminding within the home e.g. playroom, courtyard, garden, downstairs bathroom, kitchen
• ensure all administration and paperwork records are maintained as directed by the registered childminder and to ensure compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). These might include accident / incident reports, attendance records, etc
• build and maintain positive relationships with the children, families who use the service, the registered childminder and other people the service is in regular contact with, for example at playgroups, schools and play centres
• abide by the service’s confidentiality policy at all times. All information regarding the children and families who use the service, the registered childminder and their family is strictly confidential and cannot be discussed with a third party without the registered childminder’s specific permission, or in an emergency situation
• refresh and update training as required and take responsibility for own professional development.
Start date: Monday 1st September 2025 at the latest, or sooner if available.
The hours: Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays Surrey term time only from 9am til 6pm.
The pay: minimum wage according to age (£10 per hour if 18 to 20, £12.21 per hour 21 and over).
Qualifications: DBS check (criminal record and background check) to be arranged once a candidate is successful. You need to be a caring person who enjoys working with children and display good safety awareness when out and about with children. Safeguarding training and paediatric first aid training will also be provided.
