Summary

A fantastic opportunity has arisen at Buckinghamshire Healthcare for a Fixed Term Fixed Term Contract as an LED Core Trainee Doctor in General Surgery available for 12 months from September 2025.

This post is to support the General Surgery Department in delivering the best clinical care for our patients at a CT equivalent level. This post includes providing on-call provisions.

Candidates must have a full GMC registration with 'Licence to Practice in the UK'.

Please note: We anticipate this to be a popular post and this advert may close early due the expected high number of applicants.

The successful candidate will be part of the General Surgery Service Delivery Unit, which adopts a firm-based approach. There is a good deal of flexibility and excellent working relationships between firms.

Duties include the care of elective inpatients at Wycombe Hospital. Wycombe Hospital is a busy district General Hospital catering for all elective surgery and same day case surgery, including paediatric and complex major surgery.

The duties whilst at Wycombe Hospital include operating sessions and some outpatient work will be required at both Wycombe and Amersham Hospital.

Duties also include care of acute surgical patients at Stoke Mandeville whilst on call.

The Trust has gone through a major service reconfiguration. Included within these plans was the development, through the ‘Shaping Health Services’ project, of a Surgical Centre at Wycombe General Hospital. This is a dedicated surgical facility to provide planned day case and inpatient care for a pre-defined range of routine treatments.

To complement this facility, all surgical trauma and emergencies were centralised at Stoke Mandeville Hospital. This project served to provide surgical services in a manner that reduced delays for patients waiting for theatre, maximised available theatre time, and delivered elective and emergency care in a more systematic way.

The successful candidate(s) may be appointed to any of the subspecialty firms except for Vascular Surgery. The candidate may express a preference at interview, but this may not be guaranteed.
