Summary

Permanent - Part Time - Term Time - September 2025 start

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a skilled Technician to join our team working within a thriving and high-achieving Visual Arts department the beautiful Prior Park College overlooking the City of Bath. The day-to-day focus of this role would be predominantly within the specialism of Textiles, which is taught to GCSE and A Level, but may also extend to the areas of Art and Photography on occasion. The role will include facilitating the smooth-running of lessons, ordering and preparation of materials and providing one-to-one technical assistance to students.

Essential
· Fluent knowledge of textile design processes and techniques including garment construction, pattern-cutting, sewing machine skills, hand-stitching and embroidery, printmaking, constructed textiles and surface/fabric manipulation techniques.
· Willingness to engage positively with students throughout the Secondary age range, in a classroom context alongside teaching staff
· An interest in contemporary art and design
· Adaptability and ability to problem-solve independently

· Degree in a Textile/Design discipline or industry-based experience

The department is extremely well-resourced. It is housed in four large studios, together with a fully equipped dark room and photography suite, screen-printing area, scanners, printers, etching presses and Textiles facilities. The department liaises closely with the Design Technology department to make use of laser cutters, 3D printers and other relevant equipment. The Textiles area includes around 20 sewing machines, overlockers, heat presses, a light-exposure unit, a screen washing area, and a freehand embroidery machine.

The ethos of the department is to inspire fascination for the visual world, supporting students to find their voices as artists and designers of the future. Students are encouraged to follow their own imaginative path, while also being offered a structured framework where needed. The department takes an integrated approach to subject specialisms; crossing traditional boundaries is actively encouraged.

Teaching and learning extend beyond the classroom, with open studios during activity time after school on four evenings per week and Saturday mornings. Enrichment events include trips, workshops by visiting artists and links with local practitioners.
