Summary
Neway are looking for a Homeless Intervention Caseworker to join our client based with Central Bedfordshire Council.
This role is starting asap, working Mon to Fri 36 hours a week, for 6 to 9 months
Our Housing Solutions Service is looking for an experienced Homeless Intervention Officer to join our award-nominated and forward-thinking Homelessness Intervention Team. You will play a vital role in delivering a person-centred service aimed at preventing and alleviating homelessness.
As part of the Crisis Intervention Team, which supports single people facing homelessness or rough sleeping, you will hold a complex and varied caseload, delivering high-quality advice and assistance in line with statutory homelessness duties. In addition to casework, you will also play a key role in supporting the Team Leader and Senior Officer through delegated responsibilities, including:
Coaching and mentoring other officers, promoting learning and upskilling across the team
Supporting case reviews to ensure consistent, high-quality decision-making
Providing cover for senior duty responsibilities, ensuring operational continuity
Contributing to service improvement through the sharing of best practices and legislative expertise
While you will not directly line manage staff, you will act as an advanced practitioner within the team, helping to embed a ‘teaching hospital’ approach that fosters continuous professional development and reflective practice.
What you will be doing:
Holding a personal caseload of complex homelessness cases in line with the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017, Housing Act 1996 (Part 7 as amended), Equality Act 2010, and other relevant legislation
Providing expert housing advice and assistance to vulnerable individuals, with a strong focus on early intervention and prevention
Supporting colleagues through coaching and mentoring, including regular case discussions and feedback
Acting as a point of contact for complex queries and escalations in the absence of the Senior Officer or Team Leader
Supporting the service with strategic objectives and key performance indicators
Participating in a rota for enhanced Out of Hours homelessness provision
Working across the Central Bedfordshire area as required – access to a vehicle is essential
What we’re looking for:
You’ll need to have a sound understanding of homelessness legislation, including the wider legal and policy frameworks (e.g., landlord and tenant law, safeguarding, the Care Act, Children’s Act, and welfare benefits). You will also need:
Strong leadership and communication skills, even without formal line management
Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills
The ability to manage a high-pressure, fast-paced caseload while supporting others
A collaborative, reflective, and developmental mindset
A commitment to high-quality customer service and continuous service improvement
Working arrangements:
This is a hybrid role. You will have the flexibility to work from home, but weekly attendance is required at our main office in Dunstable to support team collaboration, coaching activities, and in-person service delivery, and when business requires.
