Summary
The Public Affairs & Policy Manager will play a strategic leadership role in developing and delivering CAHN’s Public Affairs & Policy strategy. This role is central to amplifying CAHN and wider community’s voice in national policy debates, particularly in relation to health equity and wider social determinants of health. As the organisation’s lead representative for public affairs, press, and policy engagement, you will act as a key spokesperson and liaison for CAHN’s parliamentary work, including serving as the main point of contact for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on Black Health. You will build and maintain strong relationships across Westminster, Government departments, press & media, businesses, and Voluntary Community Faith Social Enterprise (VCFSE) sector to ensure that CAHN’s work informs and influence policy development. This is a strategic role requiring excellent political acumen, strong communication skills, and a deep commitment to addressing racial disparities and health inequalities. You will work across Parliament, Government, and with key stakeholders to ensure CAHN’s policy positions are visible, effectively communicated, and responsive to emerging issues affecting the Black Caribbean and African community in the UK.
Key Responsibilities
Parliamentary Engagement and Strategic Collaboration
1. Build and maintain strong relationships with MPs, Peers, Government Ministers, civil
servants, politicians, and other political stakeholders to elevate CAHN’s parliamentary
presence in Westminster.
2. Act as CAHN’s primary point of contact for the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on
Black Health, coordinating work programmes, engagement, activities, and ensuring
alignment with CAHN’s mission and vision.
3. Represent CAHN at relevant select parliamentary committees, All-Party Parliamentary
Groups (APPGs), conferences, and external events, effectively communicating the
CAHN's work and policy positions.
4. Organise and facilitate impactful roundtables, workshops, and events to engage key
stakeholders and advance CAHN's policy objectives within Parliament.
5. Build strong partnerships and ensure CAHN is represented in relevant spaces and events
to ensure input into policy.
Policy Development and Research
1. Develop and implement CAHN’s public affairs strategy in Westminster and Government
departments ensuring alignment with organisational goals and strategic priorities.
2. Prepare evidence-based policy briefings, submissions, reports, and consultation
responses on key thematic issues pertaining to health equity and wider disparities.
3. Participate in research and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data to inform
evidence-based policy positions for CAHN.
4. Continuously monitor, analyse, and interpret emerging policy trends, legislation, and
government priorities to inform CAHN’s proactive policy positioning.
5. Represent CAHN in key forums, roundtables, seminars, and conferences to advance our
policy goals and raise awareness of issues affecting Black Caribbean and African
community.
6. Prepare comprehensive policy briefings for parliamentary debates, questions, legislative
discussions, and other political engagements.
7. Translate complex research and evidence into accessible policy messages, case studies,
factsheets, and impact reports tailored to a variety of audiences.
8. Monitor and respond to legislative developments, political debates, and consultations
relevant to CAHN’s mission and vision.
9. Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams to disseminate policy insights across
CAHN’s channels, ensuring clarity and consistency of messaging.
Public Affairs & Press Engagement
1. Lead CAHN’s public affairs engagement, ensuring the organisation’s policy voice is
strong, consistent, and values led.
2. Develop timely initial draft responses to press inquiries and releases, ensuring alignment
with CAHN's mission and values.
3. Work closely with internal teams to ensure all public-facing content reflects up-to-date
policy analysis and strategic priorities.
4. Prepare and present briefings for media interviews, public statements, and speaking
engagements involving CAHN’s leadership or key stakeholders.
5. Provide expert policy advice to support CAHN’s public messaging, campaign narratives,
and positioning on key issues.
6. Collaborate with internal cross-functional teams to effectively communicate policy work
through CAHN’s website, social media, and other platforms.

1. Provide clear leadership and effective line management, setting performance
expectations, monitoring progress, providing constructive feedback, and ensuring
accountability for achieving team and individual goals.
