Description
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced individual to fill the role of Principal Officer - LADO (Local Authority Designated Officer). The LADO plays a critical role in safeguarding children and young people within the community by ensuring that all allegations or concerns regarding individuals working with children are managed effectively and in accordance with legal and organizational protocols. This position demands strong leadership skills, as the Principal Officer will be responsible for overseeing investigations, providing clear guidance to local agencies, and ensuring that best practices are followed in all cases. Furthermore, the Principal Officer will serve as an advocate for the needs and interests of children, fostering positive collaboration between various stakeholders including social services, law enforcement, and educational institutions. The ideal candidate will have a comprehensive understanding of child protection legislation and policies, as well as a proven ability to handle sensitive situations with confidentiality and professionalism. Responsibilities
Lead and coordinate investigations related to allegations against adults working with children.
Provide expert advice and guidance to professionals within the local authority and partner agencies.
Ensure that all cases are documented accurately and handled in compliance with legal frameworks and policies.
Collaborate with law enforcement and other relevant agencies to ensure thorough investigation processes.
Conduct training and workshops for professionals on safeguarding practices and reporting procedures.
Monitor and evaluate safeguarding practices within the organization to enhance service delivery.
Act as a point of contact for allegations and concerns raised by the community, supporting affected individuals and families.
Requirements
A degree in social work, law, or a related field.
Extensive experience in child protection or safeguarding roles.
In-depth knowledge of legislation surrounding child welfare and safeguarding practices.
Strong analytical skills for assessing complex cases and making informed decisions.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective engagement with various stakeholders.
Proven ability to work collaboratively with partner agencies and build positive working relationships.
A commitment to continuous professional development and staying updated on best practices in the field.
