Work autonomously as an Advanced Practitioner within the speciality, managing a caseload of patients delivering individualised direct patient care. Lead in the development and expansion of the Advanced Clinical Practitioner Service within the specialist area with management responsibility for additional team members. A knowledgeable Team Leader, supporting staff, service and policy development within a defined area/specialty. Provide and maintain expert knowledge and practice in venepuncture, cannulation, central venous devices, chemotherapy drugs and biological therapies. Responsible for identifying and assessing complex clinical and non-clinical issues, implementing resolutions and monitoring/auditing outcomes. Undertake highly specialised technical and/or practical skills to ensure optimum patient management including complex patient monitoring; chemotherapy reviews and assessments; equipment management and defined expanded clinical roles. Accountable for own actions in accordance with Code of Professional Conduct. Will contribute towards corporate objectives, acting within local, Trust and statutory guidelines and policies always. Highly developed communication skills enabling maintenance of high-quality service and ensuring timely management and resolution of unexpected events and situations. Contribute to specialist forums and National initiatives. Identify areas for nursing research, sources of funding and initiate research projects. Regularly manage expected and unexpected clinical events relating to Acute Oncology emergencies requiring high but unpredictable levels of physical effort according to patient dependency/clinical need. Support patients, carers and staff during difficult situations arising in the clinical area, e.g. breaking bad news or following an unexpected event. Promote and monitor adherence to Health and Safety and Trust policy designed to protect healthcare staff and service users from known hazards. Provide reports to the Service Lead as requested.
