Summary

Birmingham Forward Steps is a citywide service delivered collaboratively by Birmingham Community Healthcare Trust working alongside Barnardo's and other voluntary organisations. The service operates across 10 districts and Barnardo's directly manages 4 of those districts. This commissioned service is designed for children and their parents/ carers from shortly before birth up to the age of five and provides accessible, community-based services for families with pre-school children through Family Hubs/Children's Centres, their own homes and a number of other community venues.

We are looking to recruit 2 x full time Family Support Workers at our Doddington Green Children's Centre/Edgbaston Family Hub in Birmingham. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a passionate and experienced team who's aim is to empower families with new knowledge and skills, whilst also building resilience and providing essential emotional and practical support facilitated by 1:1 and group work delivery.

As a Family Support Worker you will hold a caseload and meet with families on a regular basis through a 12 to 24 week period of interventions. You will be required to initiate Early Help Assessments to identify the family's targeted needs, provide guidance and advice based on those needs and refer families to specialist and other services when appropriate with consent, in accordance with required protocols. You will undertake multi agency work, liaising with other organisations and stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes for children and their families. You will also provide a Family Support Drop In/Duty service on a rota basis enabling families to access immediate support.

You should have/will have proven knowledge of safeguarding, child protection and confidentiality/GDPR requirements. You must have excellent record keeping skills and be proficient in the use of IT packages including databases and MS applications.

This role will require you to travel independently across the locality therefore you must be flexible and adaptable, particularly in relation to working hours and location.

The working hours for these roles are 37 per week.
