Summary
Working at PACE you will find a safe, friendly, fun and caring environment for adults with learning disabilities to enjoy activities within the community and enrich their lives with new experiences and friendships. Our main aim is to make a difference to the lives of adults with learning disabilities and their families/carers within a safe environment, through arranging well thought out, fun person-centred activities. Whilst doing so we strive to enable the people of P.A.C.E. to feel more involved in the local community.
Support workers duties include transporting groups of individual people from home to PACE base and to specified venues and supporting them to engage in the activities whilst ensuring they are kept safe. The activities can include things such as bowling, tennis, arts & crafts, meals out, etc. We have a set timetable. Any support worker employed by PACE is expected to demonstrate the following competencies in carrying out his/her duties:
Supporting our People
Our people and their families/carers must always be treated respectfully and in a way that promotes equality, diversity, dignity and upholds their rights.
Understand the individual needs of our people and support them to achieve their own goals / outcome.
Understand what support requirements are needed prior to meeting any of our people so that you are prepared.
Make sure you are able to communicate effectively with each of our people. Ask for advice if you find this difficult with any particular individual.
Recognise that our people are vulnerable. Understand and be mindful of potential abuse as outlined in our safeguarding policy. Contribute to the protection of individuals from abuse.
Contribution to Team Work
Support workers are required to make a positive contribution to and work constructively within the team.
Contribute to the development of new support workers within the team.
Continue to develop own abilities to enhance work performance.
Network and knowledge in the community
Build strong working relationships with relevant agencies, and develop useful working contacts e.g. Sailing 4 Disabled
Work closely/attend meetings with other PACE staff as appropriate to ensure that our people are provided with consistent continuity of support
Assist in maintaining links as appropriate with our people’s relatives, agencies, social workers etc. Access additional support from other agencies as necessary
Contribute to Activities
Always work in a way that ensures the service you deliver is in compliance with relevant legislation, PACE's values, policies and procedures and within contractual requirements.
Keep appropriate, accurate, records of work and communications and file them appropriately.
Promote, monitor and maintain health and safety and security in the workplace, including all venues attended.
Any information relating to our people or their family/carers or other staff members must be treated with the strictest confidence.
General
At all times act within PACE’s Rules, Policies, Procedures, and any other statutory requirements
Observe health and safety procedures in the workplace to ensure personal safety and to safeguard the interests and safety of colleagues, customers and visitors, carry out or request relevant risk assessments as appropriate
Undertake other duties and responsibilities as appropriate, all staff are expected to work flexibly within their skill level to respond to changing priorities and make sure that customer needs and business objectives are met

Essential
Satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check
Two satisfactory references
Able to speak, read, listen and write fluent English
Have good listening and communication skills
A positive ‘can do’ attitude
The ability to work within a team or on your own
The ability to understand and follow policies and procedures
Willing to learn new skills and undertake mandatory training
Honest, reliable and trustworthy
Be caring, patient and friendly
Good time keeping and attendance
Work well under pressure
Able to fill in necessary reports/paperwork with accuracy
Basic numerical skills
Understand and maintain confidentiality
Must have clean full driver’s license and business insurance before commencement of work
