Summary

Hull City Council are looking to recruit to the position of Senior Finance Officer, 1 year fixed term contract, there may be the possibility that it could become permanent, but this is not guaranteed. This opportunity has arisen due to an internal secondment to another service. We are delighted to welcome an ambitious, skilled part qualified accounting professional to the Corporate Finance Team. This permanent position is well suited to an individual that is looking to advance their career in accountancy and gain hands on experience in a busy public sector environment.
We are looking for someone with accounting knowledge, the ability to interpret and analyse complex data, a robust understanding of financial processes and procedures, and the ability to undertake financial modelling, build budgets and monitor forecasts, all of which are needed to provide support, advice, and guidance to Council services. The financial management team support all key Council services, one of which you will help personal, we strive to ensure cross divisional knowledge sharing and job rotation and the service you support may change, this will support your career growth and personal development within the corporate finance team.
The successful applicant will possess strong communication and analytical skills and be able to work both independently and as part of a wider team. This role will involve management of staff; leadership and management skills are therefore essential.
This position:Will provide financial support to Service Managers through budget setting, budget monitoring and annual accounts processes.

Work closely with directorate and external contacts in order to produce robust estimates of income and expenditure based on modelling of demand and the understanding of legislation and other external factors.
Provide professional financial advice on service issues including policy developments or changes in service delivery. Attend appropriate meetings and working groups.
Manage and develop staff through individual performance appraisals in such a way as to encourage innovation.
Ensure accurate and timely submission of grant claims to protect/maximise the financial position of the Council as well as ensuring the accurate and timely provision of information to other agencies including Central Government, CIPFA, etc.
Assist the Head of Business Finance to secure proper financial administration across the Council including optimisation of the Council’s resources.

There are a number of flexible workforce options available including home working and flexible working hours.
Qualification requirements for this post – AAT or equivalent.
