Summary

Direct Clinical Care Day-to-day management of orthopaedic patients under post-holder's consultants care. Care of out-patients, including the conducting of orthopaedic clinics under the supervision of the Consultant. To undertake theatre lists on orthopaedic patients under the supervision of a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon. The post-holder is expected to participate in the management of the Department, especially in ensuring that appropriate deputising arrangement are made, when necessary, and supervising the day-to-day clinical work of the CT's and FY2s in the department. The post-holder is expected to be committed to maintaining a high standard of note-keeping and communication with General Practitioners. He/she will be involved in preparing information for entry to the hospital's Clinical Information System and in preparing Discharge Summaries of patient's under the care of the consultant for whom he/she is working at the time. Any other duties commensurate with the grade which may be allocated from time to time. Pre-operative Undertake pre-operative assessment and obtain consent for procedures. Supporting Professional Activities To actively participate in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit. To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME) Participate in and contribute towards the teaching programme of medical and non-medical staff e.g.; journal clubs, tutorials, lectures, clinical meetings. May need recognised training approval from the Clinical Tutor/College for training SHOs. Keep up-to-date records to satisfy continuous professional development requirements. Assist in Trust clinical risk management requirements. Undertake research, if desired, as directed by supervising consultant for the directorate. Clinical Management duties as delegated and agreed by the lead clinician or clinical director. Attend daily trauma meeting.
