Your role and responsibilities
This is a great opportunity to join Suffolk County Council's Elective Home Education (EHE) team as an EHE Consultant, working from Endeavor House, Ipswich or West Suffolk House, Bury St Edmunds.
Are you a qualified teacher with experience in mainstream or specialist education settings? Would you like to work in a varied, challenging role supporting Suffolk’s Electively Home educated young people?
You will:
- Work alongside the lead, other consultants, and advisors to take a leading role in the local authority’s EHE duties, including safeguarding children and young people.
- Contribute to the council’s responsibility to ensure all children receive an ‘efficient’, ‘suitable’ and ‘age appropriate’ education through school attendance or otherwise.
- Manage an EHE caseload.
- Lead aspects of the EHE Advisors work, supporting the effective management and triage of cases.
- Contribute to the work of the EHE team to reach the ambitions outlined in the EHE Strategy for Vulnerable children and contribute to identifying and setting ambitions for 2025-2028.
- Offer signposting support and advice to home educating families, educational settings, Local Authority Officers and a wide variety of professionals.
- Inform the review of Education, Health and Care Plans for children who have special educational needs and disabilities and are being electively home educated.
- Undertake analysis and review to ensure that Councillors, MPs, senior officers, and other stakeholders have robust and accurate information about EHE in Suffolk.

You will need
- Qualified Teacher status
- Knowledge of how to support Special educational needs and disabilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

The team
You will be part of a small and friendly team of consultants and advisors working to carry out the statutory duties of the Local Authority to ensure all children have access to a suitable and efficient education.
