Title: Live-In Carer (24/7 Care)
Location: Nr Ironbridge, Shropshire
Job Type: Full-Time (Live-In), Permanent
Hours: 24/7 care on a rota basis (2 weeks on, 4 weeks off)
Salary: £1100 per working week
Start Date: Change over day 16th July – start on 17th July
Job Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, experienced, and reliable Live-In Carer to provide round-the-clock care and support to a wheelchair-bound individual with complex medical and physical needs following a spinal cord injury resulting in tetraplegia.
You will play a crucial role in supporting all aspects of daily living, including personal care, catheter and continence management, mobility assistance, meal preparation, household tasks, and ensuring medication is administered safely and on time. Full training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities:
Personal & Medical Care
Full personal care including catheter care and checking skin integrity
Manual evacuation assistance & proactive management of constipation to reduce the risk of Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD)
Recognising and responding to signs of Autonomic Dysreflexia (AD)
Support with severe spasms, pain management, and repositioning to prevent bedsores
Medication administration and adherence to strict routine
Use of hoist and sling for all transfers (bed, wheelchair, bathroom, etc.)
Monitoring and assistance with shortness of breath and use of inhaler
Night care including being on call for needs, pain, or respiratory support
Mobility & Communication
Daily transfers with a hoist, repositioning, and pressure relief routines
Respect and support for limited hand mobility, aiding with adapted utensils
Supporting communication and attending to needs promptly during the day and night
Nutrition & Hydration
Preparing & support with meals according to dietary needs (small pieces, choking risk awareness)
Ensuring adequate fluid intake and managing any feeding-related risks
Household Tasks
General domestic duties around the home
Food shopping
Managing household supplies and liaising with other support professionals as needed
Perform any duties that are of a reasonable request
Ideal Candidate Will Have:
Previous experience with complex care patients
Understanding of Autonomic Dysreflexia
Knowledge of catheter care, manual evacuation, and pressure sore prevention
Trained or confident in using a hoist and sling for safe manual handling
First Aid & Manual Handling training (or willingness to undergo training)
Good communication skills and a calm, reassuring manner
An understanding of the emotional and physical impact of long-term disability
Respectful of the client’s autonomy and home environment
Additional Requirements:
Right to work in the UK
Clean driving licence (essential)
Non-smoker preferred due to respiratory issues
