Summary

The Assistant Chef supports the Head Chef in all aspects of kitchen operations including food preparation, cooking, hygiene, and inventory management. This role ensures high-quality meals are consistently delivered, maintains kitchen standards, and helps train and guide junior kitchen staff.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the Head Chef in preparing and cooking meals according to recipes and company standards.
Maintain cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen as per food safety guidelines.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and labelling of ingredients and food items.
Monitor inventory and inform Head Chef of shortages or reordering needs.
Supervise commis chefs and kitchen helpers when required.
Assist in menu planning and development, suggesting improvements or seasonal variations.
Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations and company policies.
Support the kitchen team during busy service hours.
Ensure presentation and portion control meets company standards.

Requirements:

Proven experience as an Assistant Chef or Cook, preferably in a high-volume kitchen.
Culinary diploma or relevant qualification is preferred.
Knowledge of food safety regulations and kitchen best practices.
Ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Willingness to learn and take direction.
Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred Skills:

Basic knowledge of kitchen budgeting and cost control.
Multilingual abilities are an advantage.
