Summary
We are a friendly and dynamic team based between London and Manchester. The team is based in the Visitor Economy, Heritage, Loans and Art Collection (VEHLAC) Directorate. The team sponsors VisitEngland and VisitBritain (the British Tourist Authority): VisitBritain works with the GREAT campaign to generate demand to visit the UK. VisitEngland works with businesses and local authorities in all areas of the country to support the regional development of the visitor economy, through destination partnerships that help communities to tell their stories to visitors. The recent regional restructuring of destination management in England has set up the sector to deliver jobs and growth across all regions.
We are also working at pace on introducing a registration scheme for short-term lets, crucial for high-quality stays across the country but also to flexibly meet increased demand for accommodation during events like the Commonwealth Games.
Senior Policy Advisor - Sponsorship
The successful candidate will play a central role in managing DCMS's relationship with a key Arm's Length Body — the British Tourist Authority (BTA), operating as VisitBritain and VisitEngland. You will be responsible for ensuring that BTA’s strategic objectives remain closely aligned with DCMS’s broader ambitions for the tourism sector. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys navigating complex stakeholder environments, is confident working at pace with senior leaders, and thrives in a role where they can make a real and lasting impact on the UK’s tourism sector.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain the relationship between DCMS and BTA, ensuring the organisation is best positioned to support and deliver on government priorities.
- Monitor and drive BTA’s delivery against the 2022–25 Framework Agreement, ensuring they have the necessary funding, governance, and strategic support to meet their objectives.
- Proactively resolve operational and policy challenges, working across BTA teams and with wider government departments to remove barriers and enable the BTA to deliver effectively.
- There will also be opportunities to take on responsibility for an additional policy area in the tourism team.
