Personal Assistant Required23 year old male with learning disabilitiesLeeds 6 Burley AreaPurposeThis is to support a 23 year old young man with a learning disability and health conditions to access / attend appointments and meetings and to access social activities around his interests.About MeI have diagnoses of:Intellectual DisabilityGDDFASDADHDASDAnd health conditions:Crohn’sDiabetesDepressionI am independent and can get out and about but sometimes my social skills can let me down as I don’t always know what is acceptable and this can annoy / upset others, my verbal skills are very good but this hides my inability to process information and remember it, and understand what is going on around me. I have poor time management skills and don’t like queueing or doing things that are not my choice. My ability to be ready promptly to catch public transport to arrive anywhere on time is limited, and if public transport takes too long I can become agitated and angry but I do enjoy train travel. I’m not very good with money, I can spend it but don’t understand it’s value or how to manage it each day as I find the concept of tomorrow / the future impossible to understand.I enjoy chatting about steam trains, Dr Who, zombies, horror movies, the weather and things I’ve seen on you tube. I enjoy visiting steam railways on local heritage lines and riding on trains and visits to interactive sites such as National Coal Mining Museum, Eden Camp, Magna, theme parks, amusement arcades, lazer zones, fun fairs, bowling, snooker and cinema. I also enjoy visiting cafes. But I’m not keen on physical activity that involves walking!Main Duties· Support to get me to appointments / meetings on time· Attend appointments when needed to help me understand what has been discussed and decided. To let parents know any pertinent information.· To accompany me on days and evenings out around my interestsSkills / Values Required· Tolerance towards my interests· Good communication skills· Lots of patience and good powers of persuasion· Ability to repeat instructions several times and not assume I’ve heard or understood· Good listening skills· Good social skills and ability to read social situations and diffuse potential incidents· Help me manage my money when we are out· A non smoker is preferred to discourage me from smoking as it affects my health· Driver essential· Flexibility over hours workedHours and Rates of Pay· 6 hours week days· 6 hours Saturdays· Potential for additional hours· £12.60 per hour weekday· £15.69 per hour weekends· Holiday Payable· Additional mileage costs coveredTraining· A variety of training courses are available through Leeds City Council
