Summary
If so, a vacancy has arisen to join our Ultra Precision manufacturing team at Glyndwr Innovations Ltd based in the OpTIC Technology Centre St Asaph as a Senior Optical Polisher. Key skills and experience in CNC and conventional optical polishing are essential, this is a leadership role within a world leading large (2m) optics manufacturing facility. Current and past projects and partnerships include the European Space Agency, ESO-ELT, Airbus, BAE Systems, QinetiQ to name a few.
The OpTIC Centre has been operating for over 20 years supporting businesses with conference and meeting facilities, business incubation facilities and developing their own innovative, world class, Photonics and Optical products and processes. The Glyndwr Innovations Ltd specializes in the design and fabrication of bespoke optical components and systems. Capabilities include:
- Experience in managing an optical production team
- Optical fabrication and verification.
- Design and implementation of bespoke test systems.
- Integration and verification of optical systems.
- Engineering design and analysis.
Optical Fabrication at Glyndwr Innovations is focussed on the small volume fabrication of large and challenging optics. The optical fabrication facilities includes both CNC and conventional polishing methods and the manufacture of in house fixturing/tooling by CNC processing. With these facilities Glyndwr Innovations can manufacture optics up to 2 meters in diameter and developing processes to fabricate and verify highly aspheric optical surfaces.
This vacancy offers the successful applicant a unique opportunity to join a small, highly motivated, and skilled team where independent thought and self-motivation are encouraged. The successful candidate will have the ability to lead and coach team members to manufacture and integrate high end opto/mechanical components. Working alongside experienced optical systems design and test engineers, you will help deliver low volume, high value, world class optics and optical systems.
The successful candidate will work closely with the production manager to develop processes, work instructions and training plans relating to precision machining methods for large complex optical surfaces on both Zeeko 7 axis Polishing Machines and a Hurco 5 axis Vertical Machine Centre and therefor previous CAD/CAM experience is essential. They will be expected to have a flexible approach to working hours which include some shift work (additional shift premium paid) when the process demands.
