About Us

Our work is focused on improving vehicle safety and environmental protection by providing robust testing and certification to national and internationally recognised standards. We are a part of the Department of Transport as the designated UK Vehicle Type Approval Authority. With more than 40 years’ experience, we have become one of the largest and well-respected approval bodies around. Joining our specialist team of experts, you will play a pivotal role in the delivery of our work with the opportunity for occasional travel to large and small manufacturing facilities around the world, and to our overseas offices. You will be responsible for assessing manufacturers’ quality systems and working practices to verify that the procedures they have in place ensure conformity of their production.

The introduction of the Great Britain (GB) Type Approval Scheme is an opportunity for us to evolve to meet a new objective in supporting the global automotive industry in gaining GB Type Approval. This role is an essential part of this evolution, overseeing the work of the decision maker team and advising and supporting where necessary in the delivery of this key element of our ISO 17021-1 accreditation. This will involve analysis of CoP data and documentation against type approval and ISO requirements.

Working in a fast-paced environment, your days will be varied, engaging with numerous stakeholders, customers and colleagues. Confidently forging positive working relationships; it is essential you are an effective communicator, with excellent customer service skills and have a forward-thinking attitude when prioritising tasks and dealing with conflicting priorities. Inspirational leadership and the ability to manage situations both logically and methodically will enable you to deliver quality and precision to our exacting standards.

Your ongoing development will be our priority as we will support you to enhance your skills and knowledge with a range of training and learning opportunities. This role will give you an insight into the manufacturing of mainstream and specialist vehicles and components for all vehicle manufacturers who sell into the UK and first-hand exposure to the latest vehicle technology, often before it reaches the market, along with more traditional methods of vehicle manufacturing.

As a Principal Compliance Engineer (Decision Maker), your key responsibilities will include:

  • Being the Conformity of Production (CoP) lead Decision Maker.
  • Leading the Decision Maker Team and general leadership within CoP.
  • Deputising for the Chief Compliance Engineer (as and when required).
  • Conducting risk assessments and highlighting hazards which may result in non-compliance by the business.
