About the Role
As Stores Assistant you will assist with planning and managing stock levels for all stores inventory items, ensuring efficient stock layout, maximising utilisation of space, and robust operating procedures, including stock control, internal requisition of goods and efficient delivery service to depots and direct to sites as appropriate. You will work with the procurement team to ensure compliance with purchase ordering and receipting rules.
You will verify the quality and quantity of deliveries received for all operational depots, ensuring remote staff follow agreed procedures, and negotiating with suppliers regarding damage reports and invoice queries
You will observe and enforce safe working practices within the stores and depot environments, giving regard to statutory legislation, such as COSHH Regulations, Health and Safety and Procurement best practice and ensure the maintenance of detailed, accurate stores documentation including computerised records, corporate and localised systems.
You will process and input to systems, and generate reports as required, take responsibility for localised training and support the storekeepers and any other delegated staff within the depot and stores environment.
This role is a “Safety Critical Post” and, consequently, subject to random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with our policies and procedures. A copy of our Substance Misuse Policy and Procedure is available upon request.
About You
To apply for this post, you must hold or have;
- GCSE Grades A –C or equivalent in Maths and English (NVQ Level 2) and BTEC HNC / Higher in a technical or administrative field,
OR
Demonstrable evidence of the skills & experience as outlined in the Job Specification, together with a commitment to attain the required qualifications.
- Experience of working in an office (or stores) environment using Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and Access. Outlook, PowerPoint and of entering and retrieving data on a computer.
- Good numeracy, verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience of stores and stock control processes, including financial implications of decisions and practices and Waste Management regulations. You have knowledge of storekeeping and inventory management, administrative functions & of using ICT systems and business processes to support the efficient delivery of services.
- It would be ideal, but not essential if you have Forklift/Telehandler experience.
- Experience of working as part of a team, dealing with internal and external customers on the telephone and face to face and handling conflicting demands.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise work; you are good at problem solving & analysis and you are willing to be flexible, learn and undertake a variety of different tasks.
