Summary
Our client is a leading provider of support services for individuals with learning disabilities, committed to empowering individuals to lead fulfilling lives. They are currently seeking a creative and compassionate Crafts Lead to join their team in Warrington, delivering meaningful craft, arts, and woodwork sessions while supporting learners to develop skills, confidence, and self-expression in a safe and inclusive environment.
About the Role:
As the Crafts Lead, you will play a key role in designing and delivering engaging creative sessions tailored to each learners abilities and goals. Through a wide range of arts, crafts, and woodwork activities, you will help learners build practical and life skills, promote independence, and contribute to enterprise initiatives such as seasonal craft sales.
This hands-on role combines creativity with leadership, supporting learners with diverse and sometimes complex needs, while also mentoring support staff and volunteers. Reporting to the Head of Department, youll be responsible for delivering high-quality, person-centred experiences and monitoring learner progression.
As the Crafts Lead, your key responsibilities will include:
* Plan and deliver creative, inclusive arts, crafts, and woodwork sessions tailored to each learners individual learning plan (ILP).
* Support learners in building life skills, confidence, and autonomy through hands-on activities.
* Monitor and manage craft shop inventory, ensuring seasonal, high-quality items are produced for sale by learners.
* Provide respectful, person-centred care and assistance to learners with varied and complex needs.
* Embed safeguarding into all sessions, reporting any concerns promptly in line with procedures.
* Maintain accurate digital and written records of learner progress, participation, and attendance.
* Promote a positive, respectful environment that encourages learner dignity, wellbeing, and growth.
* Respond to challenging behaviours with professionalism and empathy, supporting self-regulation and personal development.
* Conduct learner and volunteer progress reviews, providing guidance and development opportunities.
* Lead by example, modelling values-based behaviour and championing inclusive practice.
* Manage and support volunteers to ensure they contribute meaningfully to the learner experience.
* Collaborate with colleagues to ensure effective communication and continuity of care.
* Ensure a safe working environment, assessing risks dynamically and ensuring proper use of tools and equipment.
The Crafts Lead will have the following skills and attributes:
* Proven experience in creative arts, crafts, or woodwork.
* Experience working with individuals with learning disabilities or complex needs is essential.
* Previous experience in leading sessions and managing volunteers is desirable.
* NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care (or working towards).
* Demonstrated knowledge of safeguarding, the Mental Capacity Act, and inclusive support principles.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to foster an inclusive, respectful, and learner-centred environment.
* Calm, solution-focused approach to managing behaviours and challenges.
* Strong organisational skills and the ability to adapt in a dynamic setting.
* Comfortable and respectful in delivering personal care when required.
* Creative flair with a passion for helping others express themselves through art and craft.
