Summary

DWP’s Marketing Team use evidence, insight and expertise to deliver effective and innovative marketing strategies and campaigns. Our marketing campaigns address complex challenges to maintain trust and influence audience behaviour either directly or by increasing engagement with DWP’s policies and services.

Our key role is to deliver joined-up strategic communications activity both across government and within DWP to support the Department to achieve its core goals that ladder up to the Government’s Growth and Opportunity Missions outlined in the Plan for Change.

As Head of Video, you will be responsible for shaping and delivering DWP’s creative video strategy, overseeing the production of both organic and paid content for our social media channels and intranet within the Marketing Team.

You will lead and mentor a team of six video professionals, ensuring high-quality, engaging content that communicates departmental policy and ministerial priorities. You will report to the Head of Digital Communications.

You will:

  • Play an active leadership/line management role within the Marketing Team, supporting the Head of Digital Communications. 

  • Work with colleagues across the Government Communications service and in our creative agencies to gather and share best practice and ensure DWP creates best-in-class content.
  • Work with colleagues and stakeholders to plan, develop and produce end-to-end video content – from concept, script and storyboard to editing and delivering the final product.
  • Use insight to inform your creative approach for video content to be used on paid-for and owned DWP social channels.


  • Provide expert video advice to senior internal and external stakeholders, including ministers and Secretary of State. 

  • Play an important role storytelling how the department helps millions of people and maximise the use of internal and external case studies.
  • Have a can-do attitude, making reactive and proactive moving-image content that communicates the department’s messages effectively.
  • Work well under pressure and to tight deadlines, as well as adapt quickly to changing circumstances.

Responsibilities will be:

  • Developing and leading your team to create innovative and accessible video content that achieves cut through to audiences and supports DWP strategic comms objectives.
  • Collaborating across DWP Communications Directorate with other functional specialists to deliver fully integrated, multi-channel comms campaigns.
  • Responsible for communicating governmental and departmental policy by developing creative video content, concepts, content strategies and pitch documents.
  • Working across the Communications Directorate to support departmental/government priorities and building relationships with Special Advisors.
  • Implementing structured training and career development plans to enhance the teams’ skills and keeping on top on the latest trends.
  • Developing and implement a video content strategy that aligns closely with the Digital Communications Strategy.
  • Responsible for being strategic as well as hands on creating engaging high-quality videos that set the standard for the wider team.
