Summary
Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior nursing staff and GPs Facilitating change by providing holistic assessment and lifestyle advice on diet, smoking, alcohol intake and exercise Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for cervical cytology smear tests Take ECGs Carry out Respiratory Chronic Disease management clinics including Asthma and COPD, carrying out Peak Flow Readings and Spirometry Perform venepuncture according to local guidelines Hypertension Management Carry out Diabetes Chronic Disease management clinics Offer advice about childhood and adult vaccinations and ensure vaccines are administered under patient group directions Able to recognize and manage anaphylaxis according to current UK guidelines Chaperoning and assisting patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs Interest in Diabetes or Coronary Heart Disease and Contraception. Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to senior nurses or GPs as appropriate Maintaining and cleaning equipment used by the nurses and GPs Maintaining GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms Maintaining vaccinations stock levels Observing Cold Chain Policies Participation in administrative systems in the Practice At all times there will be a need to maintain accurate records Ability to obtain and document informed consent (either verbal or written) Ensure infection control guidelines are maintained Ability to monitor and manage maintenance of stock and equipment to include refrigeration, sterilizer and emergency equipment A duty to advise Managers of potential problems or errors within a range of assigned tasks Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including systems of referral. Ability to recognise signs and symptoms of child abuse. Able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guidelines Maintain confidentially of information at all times Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post. Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies/guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety A commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice
