Crynodeb

NUH is looking to appoint a Trust Grade doctor at ST3 or above level to support our Rehabilitation Medicine service at the National Rehabilitation Centre, due to open in 2025. You should have at least 4 years of post-graduate experience, including recent experience in either rehabilitation medicine, or in a related specialty such as neurology, geriatrics, major trauma, orthopaedics and stroke.

The NRC, as a 70-bed standalone hospital under Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, represents an ambitious step in transforming rehabilitation care. Its core mission is to enhance patient outcomes through cutting-edge multidisciplinary care, advanced training programs, and research initiatives. As a national hub, the NRC will manage complex cases including neurorehabilitation, major trauma recovery, and amputee rehabilitation.

This post will initially be for 12 months however there will be the opportunity to extend upon mutual agreement.

If the opportunity to work in a “world leading, national centre of excellence” which is committed to transforming the provision of clinical rehabilitation in the UK sounds like the next step on your career journey, press the ‘Apply now’ button - we’d love to receive your application!

You will work as part of the registrar cohort based at the NRC where duties will include ward cover and on-calls. There will also be outpatient clinic duties based in City or QMC campuses. You will contribute to the out of hours rota at the NRC which will include both long days and nights. To be eligible for the post, you should have completed core medical training (or the equivalent) and be registered with the GMC. Previous UK experience will be advantageous but not essential as a full shadowing period will be provided where required.

You will be supported to work through competencies to develop portfolio evidence to meet your set objectives and will work under the clinical supervision of a rehabilitation medicine consultant. Candidates who wish to work towards a Portfolio Pathway application will be supported to gain the necessary experience and competencies.

At the NRC, research & innovation, and education & training will be fully integrated with clinical practice. That means that as well as being a national centre of excellence for rehabilitation, the NRC will also be uniquely placed to pioneer international research into clinical rehabilitation, rehabilitation products and technologies as well as attracting experts in the field. TheNRC Academic Networkwill be led by the University of Nottingham and Loughborough University.

With over 20,000 staff, we are one of the biggest employers in the city with a central role in supporting the health and wellbeing of our local population. We play a leading role in research, education and innovation.

Come and join our wonderful team at NUH. We are big believers in diversity and welcome new ideas to help develop our team in order to deliver world class healthcare to the vast patient populations we serve. With endless personal development opportunities available, at NUH we will endeavour to turn your job into a career!

We particularly welcome applications from people who identify as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic, or Disabled, as we are striving to be better represented at NUH.

TheNRCis an exciting development for Rehabilitation Medicine in the UK and worldwide which will deliver early, goal-directed rehabilitation to patients transitioning from our Major Trauma Centre and Critical Care.

You will support various aspects of this busy service, with a commitment to an out of hours rota. The post holder will attend clinics, multidisciplinary meetings and ward rounds as per allocation in a weekly firm timetable.

In addition, there is a weekly departmental meeting and Resident Doctor teaching which you would be expected to attend and contribute to. Although this is not a training post it should be possible for an enthusiastic doctor to map their experiences to many of the core curriculum programme competences as all aspects of the syllabus are relevant to this attachment.

We encourage all of our doctors to involve themselves in audit and research. You would be expected to make yourself familiar with the processes of the audit cycle and to assess the role of audit in clinical governance and in improving patient care. All candidates will be allocated a research/QI project under the supervision of the NRC Rehabilitation Medicine Research Lead.
