We are dedicated to improving the lives of individuals through expertly crafted, bespoke medical solutions. Due to new product and market development, we are looking to expand our workshop team with a skilled Sewing Machinist and Leather Worker.
Role Overview
As part of our workshop team, you will work on the production of custom prosthetic and orthotic components, using traditional leathercraft and industrial sewing techniques. This role combines precision craftsmanship with a purpose-driven mission to help improve patient mobility and comfort.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate industrial sewing machines (e.g., flatbed, post-bed, Cylinder, Walking foot Zig Zag) for stitching leather and technical fabrics
• Cut, shape, and assemble leather and synthetic materials for prosthetic and orthotic devices
• Follow technical drawings or patterns accurately
• Perform quality control to ensure each product meets high standards
• Collaborate with customers’ clinical and technical staff on bespoke designs
• Maintain tools, machinery, and a clean work environment
Requirements
• Proven experience with industrial sewing and leatherworking (e.g., saddlery, shoemaking, upholstery, bag making, or orthotics)
• High attention to detail and craftsmanship
• Ability to work independently and within a small team
• Good manual dexterity and focus
• Familiarity with medical or orthopaedic materials is a plus (training will be provided)
• Ability to repair sewing machines and other leather work machinery is a plus
• Right to work in the UK
Desirable
• Experience in prosthetics, orthotics, medical devices, or similar industries (garment manufacturing, bag manufacturing, upholstery etc…)
• Understanding of soft materials used in clinical or support garments
• Knowledge of pattern cutting or moulding techniques
