Skills & Experience:
Must hold a CIEH accredited degree (MSc. or BSc. (Hons)
Degree or Diploma) in Environmental Health within 6 months from the time of appointment.
Currently competent to deliver a range of interventions under the Food Law Code of Practice (2021).
A detailed specialist knowledge of the legislation relating to the activities of the Food and Health and Safety Section and Infectious Disease Control.
Experience undertaking primary production audits, approved premises approvals and review of approvals, export certificates, supporting and contributing to external audits, validation of food safety management systems
Investigative, analytical and interpretative skills
Communication and negotiation skills
What's involved with this role: You will work within a professional environmental health team to support the Council’s statutory duties in food safety and health and safety. You will also provide a customer-focused service, responding to public requests and carrying out inspections and regulatory work, particularly in lower-risk food premises.
Key duties:
Respond promptly to public enquiries and reports, maintaining accurate records to support evidence-based interventions and outcomes.
Provide tailored food safety and hygiene advice to businesses, using appropriate communication styles to enhance understanding.
Support businesses through advice and coaching, encouraging ownership of responsibilities and promoting full legal compliance.
Carry out inspections and surveys of high-risk businesses and premises to assess standards, identify risks, and enforce public health legislation.
Apply active listening and questioning techniques to gather information, and handle challenging situations professionally and objectively.
