Summary
The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the Practice Nursing team may include any or all of the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Lead Practice Nurse, GP and/or Practice Manager, dependent on current and evolving Practice workload and staffing levels: Performing venepuncture to obtain blood samples, ensuring that the patient is as comfortable and relaxed as possible and confirming their agreement to the collection of a blood sample Ensuring samples are stored in appropriate containers Accurate labelling of all samples to confirm patient identity Checking patient identification against GP/Nurse request and confirming with patient Recording collection of blood sample in patient record in accordance with Practice procedure Ensuring that samples are dispatched to the appropriate laboratories in a timely fashion. ECG recording BP recording and reporting Dressings of wounds Chaperoning duties Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation Emergency equipment and medication vaccine re-stocking and checking Managing clinical waste Re-stocking consulting rooms including ordering of stock where appropriate Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being Ensuring that anomalies are reported to a senior member of staff Notifying the GP/Nurse of any significant patient issues Liaising with and assisting members of the administrative team Confidentiality In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately.
