Summary
The post holder will support theClinical Lead for Tissue Viabilityin the management of the tissue viability nursing team, taking responsibility for the assessment, management and evaluation of evidence-based tissue viability nursing care to patients in the complex wound clinic/patient own home, nursing homes and/or designated buildings across Goodall Division. Promoting effective teamwork within the Division, delegating activities appropriately and monitoring the quality of care given. The post holder will be expected to identify and promote areas for service development and provide an effective learning environment for pre and post registration students.
To assist the Clinical Lead for Tissue Viabilitygiving advice in strategic direction to assist in the development of tissue viability nursing services. Increase knowledge, skills and help change the culture of professionals both within the Division and in conjunction with partner agencies in attaining the desired changes to service as directed by national and local policies resulting in improved client care. To provide a cost and clinically effective tissue viability service to patients. To provide a visible professional presence where patients, carers and staff can approach for assistance, advice and support.

The generic core requirements of such a role within Goodall Division is:
• To assist the Clinical Lead in the operational delivery of the Tissue Viability Service in Hillingdon
• To assist the Clinical Lead to manage specialist wound care clinics in Hillingdon
• To line manage the junior members of the Tissue Viability team ensuring individual staff performance, appraisal and development is robustly undertaken
• To assist the Clinical Lead to provide specialist education and training to staff (both physical and mental health), external agencies and the wider health economy
• To assist the Clinical Lead to develop policies, procedures and guidelines.
• To assist the Clinical Lead to manage and monitor the delivery of external contracts relating to the service including Dressings and pressure relieving equipment
• To cover for the Clinical Lead as necessary.
• To actively take part in research and quality improvement projects
Key Relationships
• Senior managers and clinical service leads across CNWL especially within Goodall Division (includes Camden and Hillingdon Adult and Child CommunityServices, Hillingdon Mental Health Services, CAMHS and Eating Disorder Services and Mental Health Rehab Services)

1. Line Management Responsibilities
• To line manage staff, both clinical and non-clinical, ensuring that individual staff performance, appraisal and development is robustly undertaken to optimise both individual and organisational performance and that all staff have access to continuing professional education and development to maximise performance.
• To ensure that staff that work in the service are competent and have the skills required for their post and where necessary are performance managed in line with Trust policies, procedures and processes.
• To assist the Clinical Lead to monitor and manage performance, disciplinary and sickness issues referring to other agencies as required
• To assist the Clinical Lead to ensure that staff management arrangements are consistent with HR policies and procedures within the Trust and to ensure that good practice in recruitment, appraisal, performance management and other policies are maintained.
2. Financial Responsibilities
• To assist the Clinical Lead to manage the operating budget effectively, to remain within the allocated resources for the financial year.
3. Clinical Responsibilities
• To work with the Clinical Lead to provide clinical support for the Tissue Viability service across Goodall Division
• To support the Clinical Lead as a clinical expert for multidisciplinary professionals across the Division providing structured educational programs and specialist Tissue Viability advice.
• To assist the Clinical Lead to provide specialist advice and educational programmes for other agencies including nursing and residential homes and care providers.
• To manage complicated patients in relation to tissue viability.
• To undertake complex assessments using specialist diagnostic medical devices including Doppler.
• To provide a range of complex treatment options including VAC therapy and Electroceutical therapy.
• To ensure that the care provided is evidence based.
• Liaise and refer to other Voluntary and Health organisations to provide holistic care as appropriate.
• To ensure contemporaneous record keeping and documentation in line with organizational policy.
• To ensure that users and carers are consulted about and involved in all aspects of service development and planning.
• Ensure appropriate information and education is provided to users and carers regarding assessment and treatment planning, to ensure informed consent.
• To ensure that clinical audit takes place in line with local and national developments.
• Independent prescriber
• To assist the Clinical Lead to undertake Route Cause Analysis of SI’s relating to tissue viability
4. Education and Training
• To assist the Clinical Lead to develop and deliver training programmes relating to Tissue Viability to multidisciplinary groups including external stakeholders
• To support and encourage reflective practice in nurses, helping to identify their learning needs in respect of Tissue Viability care.
• Maintain a specialist level of knowledge by keeping updated on new developments both national and international.
5.Policy Development and Service Improvement
• To assist the Clinical Lead in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and guidelines relating to Tissue Viability management.
• To assist the Clinical Lead to ensure team adherence to policies, procedures and guidance at service, trust and national level.
6. Other Responsibilities:
• To take responsibility for personal and professional development.
• To assist the Clinical Lead to support monitoring of compliance with clinical governance standards, CQC compliance, and other Trust-wide policies and processes and best practice requirements
• To investigate complaints as appropriate and ensure action is taken to address issues of concern and prevent reoccurrence of similar events.
