We are seeking an International Training Fellow in Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, who together with 60 Consultant Anaesthetists, 2 Specialist Doctors, 16 Speciality Doctors and 24 Trainees will provide a comprehensive anaesthetic service to a population of approximately 570,000 across Southern Derbyshire.

The post is available as a 24 month appointment and offers a variety of interests including, theatre work, obstetric anaesthesia, intensive care and resident on call duties. A willingness to work flexibly is essential.

The final phase of a £333 million PFI project in Derby opened in May 2009, bringing all local acute services onto a state of the art single site facility at the Royal Derby Hospital complex. The new hospital has a total bed compliment of 1,150, with 35 operating theatres, a 16 bed ICU and a 24 bed step-down facility for post operative care. It also has a new maternity suite and Children’s hospital with some non acute services still remaining at the London Road Community Hospital (formerly the Derbyshire Royal Infirmary). The Trust has also seen the opening of a graduate entry Medical School - a satellite of the University of Nottingham, which has greatly enhanced the teaching and research opportunities for medical staff.

Applicants must hold full GMC Registration with a licence to practise at time of appointment and be able to demonstrate a wide range of experience in all aspects of anaesthesia and have worked in the specialty for a minimum of two years.
• Maintenance of the highest clinical standards in an anaesthetic service
• Active participation in both departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and audit.
• Responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing medical education (CME).
• Knowledge of anaesthesia and evidence of an understanding of its application
• Clinical ability to deliver a safe anaesthetic service in the operating theatre, Intensive Care Unit and the Obstetric Delivery suite
• Knowledge of post operative pain management
• Competent in pre-operative, post-operative care and ongoing management of patient

• The appointee will work an average of 48 hours a week and will participate in a 1:8 prospective on call rota covering Theatres, Obstetrics or Intensive Care. The international Training Fellows will not form more than 25% of any rota.
• The appointee will be expected to work as part of a team with a responsibility to maintain the highest standards of anaesthetic clinical care. Active participation in Departmental and Trust matters concerning Clinical Governance and Audit is essential.

Qualifications

MBBS or equivalent medical qualification



Experience

Evidence of having worked a minimum of 3 years outside the United Kingdom in Anaesthesia, including the most recent 12 months

Log book of anaesthetic experience



Eligibility

Eligible for full registration with GMC with license to practice at time of appointment.

Eligibility to work in the UK.
