Summary

Job Purpose: To lead and direct the finance services of the charity Specific Duties: To manage the finance department and deliver organisation wide financial expertise Operational and line management of finance managers with overall responsibility for finance team members including a team of regular volunteers To support the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services in preparing the annual budget and reforecast through preparation of budget templates, coaching of departmental managers and putting together the consolidated budget and year end reforecast position, and then uploading to the finance system. To support Trust applications ensuring accurate information is provided and restricted funds are recorded and spent correctly. To support the Director of Finance and Corporate Services by managing and ensuring: year-end financial requirements are met and to lead on the production of the annual statutory accounts monthly management accounts and forecasts are produced at charity and departmental level effective liaison with the external auditors, the bank and other external institutions statutory compliance of a financial nature all tax obligations are met and all tax opportunities maximised, including management of the charitys partial VAT recovery position and completion of quarterly VAT returns management of the trading company to manage surplus funds and review investments internal audit procedures and risk assessments provide finance training and support to colleagues ensure all aspects of the finance system are kept up to date To ensure written procedures and policies are kept up to date covering all areas of responsibility To promote a procurement culture, ensuring the hospices procurement policies are complied with and to chair the Procurement Working Group; To be an integral member of the organisational Operational Performance and Assurance Committee To lead projects, provide ad hoc financial information and analysis and undertake activities as required To deputise for the Executive Director of Finance and Corporate Services Duties in common with other members of Performance Committee: To be an integral member of the organisational Performance Committee undertaking organisational wide operational management as required, instilling and enabling a culture of responsibility, accountability, authority, drive and support at every level To behave at all times with complete integrity, respecting professional dignity and ensuring that actions enhance the reputation of themselves and the charity To take responsibility with other members of Performance Committee for managing the day-to-day operation of the charity To be effective and innovative in ensuring staff and volunteer welfare is paramount To ensure cost-effective use of all resources and seek ways to reduce costs while maintaining quality of service and operation To lead projects agreed with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) To undertake any other reasonable duty that may be required Duties in common with other members of staff: To report accidents and incidents without delay, according to policy.
