Summary
The post holder is a recognized expert in the specialty, responsible for scanning a variety of specialist vascular ultrasounds and reporting on these.
This includes ensuring consistency of medical imaging quality, accurate informative report writing and maintaining high standards of patient care to the agreed departmental protocols.
They are responsible for the provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students and responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new procedures and evidence based care. Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits.

Communication
· Communicate very sensitive information about scan findings to patients and clinicians
· Regularly attend study days, meetings and clinical meetings and participate in discussions
Analytical and Planning
· Effectively re-organise workload to deal with more urgent cases (prioritisation)
· Plan and manage workload for specialised procedures in a timely manner taking consideration of other team members and available resources when making decisions
Clinical Duties
· Undertakes complex ultrasound assessments to provide a diagnostic and surveillance service for patients with venous and arterial disease
· Communicate scan findings to patients and clinicians
· Required to scan and support the vascular lab across Broomfield and Southend Hospitals (part of the MSE Trust)

1. Communication
· Communicate very sensitive information about scan findings to patients and clinicians
· Regularly attend study days, meetings and clinical meetings and participate in discussions
· The post requires receiving and assimilating a range of complex facts, written and verbal, from the referrer, colleagues and patients
· Good communication skills are necessary to inform patients and sometimes their relatives about the investigation, the process of the scan, and implications of the results and follow up procedure
· Written and verbal reports are made to Consultants, doctors, nurses and multi-disciplinary teams
· Communication with Radiologists, team members, nurses, porters and ward staff to ensure effective service delivery
· To maintain a high level of personal expertise and continual professional development.
1. Analytical and Planning

· Report any problems with the ultrasound machine, probes or any other equipment
· Incident reporting of untoward incidents
· To scan and report on a variety of specialist ultrasounds
· Undertake examinations of the vascular system as part of the vascular ultrasound service
1. Clinical Duties

· Required to scan and support the vascular lab across Broomfield and Southend Hospitals (part of the MSE Trust)
1. Policy and Service Development
· Participate in audit and new service developments
· Carry out audit and provide advice based on skill level and experience within specified areas of work
· Contribute where possible to service developments that have led to benefits to the Trust and/or patient care. This may be evidenced in the form of financial savings, significant throughput for the department or the provision of new services.
1. Financial and Physical Resources
· Maintain agreed stock levels of consumables used in the department. Report and follow up the status of equipment failures, incident reports and keep ultrasound manager apprised of the situation.
1. Staff Management
· Be active in teaching, lecturing and presentation of case studies
· Participate in the training of medical staff, radiology and other healthcare professionals, when required
· Participate in the clinical supervision and training of vascular trainees
· Maintain a CPD portfolio
· Access the internet and Trust internet to access relevant information for personal training and development
· Regularly attend study days, meetings and clinical meetings
1. Information Resources
· Maintain Radiology Information System eg. Soliton for patient registration, appointment booking and examination reports
· To ensure consistency of medical imaging quality, accurate informative report writing and maintain high standards of patient care to the agreed departmental protocols
· Incident reporting of untoward incidents.
