An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced community worker to join Queen's Park Community Council, London's first and only resident-led government body. As the Community Development and Engagement Officer, you will play an integral role in engaging local people as volunteers and working group members, empowering resident voices, and helping the Council to meet the needs of local people, whether with regards to cost-of-living support, health and wellbeing, education and training, etc. Your work will enhance local understanding of the Council's remit and processes, strengthen the Council's visibility, and help to organise and deliver a range of events, projects and services that improve our community's quality of life. In this role, you will work in a small team, where time management, attention to detail, flexibility and a commitment to the community are essential. There will be many opportunities to identify and undertake training and professional development and to network with professionals across local government and the third sector.


Volunteers
- Produce varied, meaningful, and accessible volunteer job descriptions and actively recruit volunteers to contribute to the Council's community work in ways that align with their skills and interests.
- Plan and deliver a range of activities to recruit volunteers that can support the broad portfolio of council activities.
- Effectively promote volunteer opportunities through internal and external channels.
- Develop and provide training, educational, networking and social opportunities that encourage volunteers' long-term commitment.
- Act as the first point of contact, ensuring volunteers feel valued, supported, and connected to the Council and community and can seek support, advice and guidance when needed.
- Provide consistent communication with volunteers to help keep them informed and engaged.
- Provide tangible and meaningful recognition to acknowledge volunteers' time and effort in the community.
- Ensure all volunteers are treated with dignity and respect and can carry out their work safely and in environments free of discrimination and victimisation.
- Proactively update and manage the volunteer database

Working Groups
- Support coordinators to plan and facilitate Working Group meetings.
- Actively recruit local residents to join and stay engaged with working groups.
- Support working group to develop proposals, projects and recommendation to Committees and Councils.
- Work with the Queen’s Park Community Council Community Development Officer to support Working Groups to plan and deliver projects green lit by Committees/ Queen’s Park Community Council.
- Work with the Proper Officer to raise funds for Working Group Projects.
- Support the Community Development with the recruitment, development and recognition of all volunteers.



Community Engagement
- Work with the Proper Officer to develop and implement a Community Engagement strategy to build resident’s understanding of the role and remit of the Queen’s Park Community Council and strengthening the Queen’s Park Community Council’s local visibility and status as a household name.
- To support community mapping and great collaboration by building and strengthen relationships with local organisations and community groups including resident’s association, cultural and religious groups, etc.
- To strengthen the Community’s engagement in the Queen’s Park Community Council’s democratic processes by engaging more residents in meetings, and working to build a local network of residents actively holding the Queen’s Park Community Council accountable and demonstrating interest in taking part in the Queen’s Park Community Council’s upcoming elections.
- To work with the Community Development Officer to engage resident in the production and distribution of the Queen’s Park Voice.

General:
- Support with administrative and logistic tasks
- Raise public awareness about the Community Council, its meetings, elections, events and issues affecting the community
- Support the planning and delivery of events, projects and services
- Give due regard to Council processes, procedures and policies in all activities.
- Any other duties commensurate with grade as may be allocated from time to time
