Sandwell Archives has received funding from The National Archives under their Archives Revealed’ programme. The funding will support Sandwell Archives to sort, repackage and catalogue the Chance Brothers Ltd. Collection as well as deliver several exciting engagement activities.

The ‘Illuminating Chance Glass’ project is a 12-month project with the aim of increasing public awareness and access to the Chance Brothers Ltd. Collection. The Chance Brothers and Company was a glassworks originally established in Spon Lane, Smethwick (formerly in Staffordshire) in 1822. It was a leading glass manufacturer and a pioneer of British glassmaking technology, with the collection spanning between the 17th Century and the early 20th Century.

Main responsibilities:

To make the Chance Brothers collection accessible by undertaking cataloguing in compliance with relevant cataloguing standards and workable cataloguing structures.
To participate in the service’s programme of outreach activities, including talks, visits, events and exhibitions.
Work together with volunteers, staff members and external partners to deliver set outputs relating to the project
Essential requirements

Educated to degree level in Archives and or/Records Management (or equivalent qualifications) - where no equivalent qualification is held, significant practical relevant experience and expertise in a similar role will be required.
Proven experience of delivering and coordinating outreach work
Proven experience in cataloguing archival collections through software platforms e.g. Axiell Calm.
Experience of working with volunteers
Interview date: Tuesday 28th May or Wednesday 29th May – slots between 9am – 2pm.
