Summary
At the Environment Agency, we’re committed to building an inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We don’t just talk about diversity - we embrace and live it, for the benefit of our people, communities, and the environment.
The River Basin Planning and Delivery Team is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Data Analyst to support one of the Agency’s most dynamic, high-profile functions.
This is a key role in shaping our data landscape. You’ll interpret complex datasets and turn them into meaningful insights that inform decision-making and drive action to improve the water environment.
You’ll help design and develop Power Applications that provide visibility of Environment Agency activities, track performance, and support smarter delivery. Working closely with programme leads, you’ll create data flows, access project and programme data, and use Power BI to visualise how and when river basin measures are delivered.
We’re looking for someone who’s confident working with PowerApps and understands how to connect data across business areas. You’ll have experience in building data flows, creating insightful reports, and using Power Platform tools to track progress, report outcomes, and identify opportunities. Your work will help focus resources on key priorities and locations.
Strong analytical skills and a good grasp of business analysis principles are essential. You should be proficient in data visualisation tools (especially Power BI) and familiar with platforms such as SQL.
This is a great opportunity to explore the full potential of Microsoft Power tools, improve operational efficiency, and contribute to meaningful environmental outcomes. You’ll also grow your skills in transforming data into compelling business intelligence.
The team
Join our River Basin Planning & Delivery team within the Environment & Business Directorate. You’ll thrive in an agile, dispersed working environment. Our mission is to ensure the Environment Agency and its partners deliver statutory river basin management plans effectively. This role focuses on tracking progress across 30+ key delivery programmes, including the Water Industry National Environment Programme (WINEP) and the Environment Programme, helping drive environmental outcomes through data-led insights and performance monitoring.
Experience/skills required
• You will bring a strong technical and analytical skillset, with the ability to turn complex data into clear, actionable insights. Specifically, you’ll have:
• Proficiency in Microsoft Power Platform tools, especially Power BI - including data extraction, transformation, dashboard design, and management.
• Advanced Excel skills, including Power Query, pivot tables, and complex formulas.
• The ability to analyse large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities.
• A solid understanding of data sourcing, structuring, and optimisation for performance and clarity.
• Excellent communication and visualisation skills, able to present data clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong organisational and problem-solving skills, with a sharp eye for detail.
• The ability to quickly build and maintain productive relationships with stakeholders across teams.
• A collaborative mindset, adaptability, and a proactive approach to working in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
