Summary

ACTIVITIES CO-ORDINATOR

Accountable to: Care Centre Manager

Qualifications: Previous experience in working with older people in relation to social and recreational needs preferred.

Role Summary: To be able to understand and work alongside residents, to promote their wellbeing, and to work as a member of a wider staff team.
To meet the needs of residents attending the activities sessions in a way that respects the dignity of the individual and promotes independence.
To plan and run a weekly programme of activities.

Principle responsibilities:

1 To assist residents meet their social and recreational needs in a manner which promotes independence and which respects resident’s rights, choices and beliefs.

2 To draw up a programme of activities and social interaction based on the preferences and interests of the residents and agree this programme with the Manager.

3 To help in the promotion of mental and physical activity of residents, through conversation, outings, sharing in discussion of past and present events, reading, writing, hobbies and other activities in accordance with the agreed programme.

4 Ensure that the social/recreational needs of residents are met through larger group activities, small group sessions and one-one sessions respecting residents’ rights, choices and beliefs.

5 To establish and maintain links with the local community.

6 To report any problems relating to activities to the Manager or person in charge.

7 To be responsible for tidying rooms used for activities, storing and updating equipment ensuring the environment is hazard free.

8 To keep appropriate records of activities and assessment forms to review the development of residents involved in activities

9 Be familiar with and work in accordance with the home’s policies and procedures.

10 To liaise with other staff and contribute to the development of the home by attending staff meetings and involvement in team discussion.

11 To liaise with family, friends, volunteers and other outside agencies having an interest in the activities group

12 Participate in training sessions and keep informed through reading and training of any new developments which would assist in the development of activities.

13 To maintain confidentiality at all times.

14 To respond to requests from residents, family or staff in a positive, polite and helpful manner.

15 To undertake other duties which may be required and which are applicable to the post.

16 To attend mandatory training sessions as per company policy.

17 Ensure confidentiality is maintained in handling all sensitive information to include resident and staff information. Files should be kept locked away. Information should not be left out. (see record keeping policy attached)

18 Maintain accurate records in accordance with Company policies.

19 Report any changes in resident general health to person in charge.
