Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

The successful candidate will be, or have the potential to be, an outstanding teacher who inspires a keen interest in Maths in students and who is able to deliver the exceptional results which we have come to expect from our students. A full contribution to our extensive extra-curricular programme will be expected. In return we can offer you support from an excellent team of colleagues where morale is high; fantastic facilities and young people who genuinely want to learn.

What the school offers its staff

Uffculme is a flourishing, popular, high performing School located on the beautiful Devon/Somerset border with easy motorway access to the regional centres of Taunton and Exeter. We are fully comprehensive and committed to inclusion. The February 2014 OfSTED inspection classed the School as ‘Outstanding’. In 2022 our Progress 8 score was +0.51 when all qualifications were counted (inc those from early entry in 2021) and our Basics E&M 9-5 was 73% and Basics E&M 9-4 was 87%, maintaining our track-record as being one of the highest performing non-selective schools. Consequently, we have received many national awards and accolades over recent times in recognition of the quality of the education provided here at Uffculme.

Within this context, the Maths Department is one of the flagship departments of the school with 73% of students last year achieving a Grade 5 or above in Maths, 92% of students achieving a Grade 4 or higher and a P8 of +0.86.

Whilst our examination results speak for themselves, they don’t tell the whole story. They are based on a culture of high expectations; exceptional levels of student participation and active involvement in the life of the school; and great relationships between staff and students. We make no apologies for wanting it all as a school: happy staff, happy students, outstanding results, amazing opportunities, and a culture which rewards and values success in all its forms.

Commitment to safeguarding

Uffculme School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We particularly welcome applications from under represented groups including ethnicity, gender, transgender, age, disability, sexual orientation or religion. As part of our due diligence process when shortlisting, we may carry out an online search of publicly available material to identify any incidents or issues which we might want to explore with the applicant at interview.
