Crynodeb
The University of St Andrews is seeking to appoint a Development Services Assistant (Gift Operations) to support the University’s fundraising programme. The Development Unit is at an exciting and extremely busy stage as we work to deliver the £300m Making Waves: The Campaign for St Andrews, to support the University’s ambitious Strategic Plan 2022-2027 under the leadership of the Principal and Vice Chancellor Professor Dame Sally Mapstone FRSE. We have ambitious fundraising goals including supporting major capital projects, increased investment in scholarships and world-leading research.
An important element of a successful fundraising programme is an effective gift operations function, which ensures gifts received are processed accurately and all relevant audit and reporting requirements are carried out in a timely manner.
The Development Services Assistant (Gift Operations) post is part of the Operations team within Development Services which comprises the following functions: collective giving fundraising; gift and office administration; database and analytics; and prospect research. The Development Services team works in close partnership with colleagues across the broader Development team, including Campaign & Donor Relations, Major Gift fundraising, and Alumni and Supporter Engagement.
The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the confidence and flexibility to communicate with a range of people. Strong administrative skills and experience are vital, along with careful attention to detail and discretion in handling confidential material. This post will require the role holder to take daily responsibility for decision-making, be flexible and enjoy working in a team environment. The successful candidate will have financial processing experience and will be expected to undertake other duties in support of the effective operation of the Development Office.
Experience of working with a membership or relational database is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. An understanding of the importance of fundraising to the advancement of higher education is required.
This post will be primarily based at the Eden Campus at Guardbridge, a state-of-the-art working environment for professional services units. The role holder will be expected to attend meetings and events in St Andrews as required. Under the University’s hybrid working policy there is the opportunity to blend working from home with time spent in the office, with an expectation of at least 50% of normal working hours office based.
This is a fixed term position from 2 June 2025 to 30 April 2026.
Employees of the University have access to a wide range of staff benefits including:
Annual leave of 30 days, plus 5 public holidays
Membership of the S&LAS Pension Scheme with generous employer contributions
A hybrid working environment, including partial homeworking where appropriate and a range of family friendly policies
Staff discount scheme for local and national goods and services
Free staff parking, employee Carshare and Cycle to Work Schemes and subsidised local bus travel
Subsidised sports membership, reduced tuition fees on degree programmes for staff, access to training and development opportunities including LinkedIn Learning, access to library facilities, salary sacrifice scheme
A range of wellbeing initiatives including membership of Peppy, a health application that connects staff to expert practitioners and personalized support on health matters
Applications are particularly welcome from people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds, and other protected characteristics who are under-represented in professional posts at the University.
Equality, diversity and inclusion are at the heart of the St Andrews experience and form a central pillar of the University Strategy. We strive to create a fair and inclusive culture demonstrated through our commitment to diversity awards (Athena Swan, Carer Positive, Race Charters). We celebrate diversity by promoting profiles of BAME, LGBTIQ+ Disabled and Neurodiverse staff and supporting networks including the Staff BAME Network; Staff with Disabilities or Neurodiversity Network; Staff LGBTIQ+ Network; and the Staff Parents & Carers Network.
