Summary
Clinical: Core Nursing/ Health Professional Responsibilities 1.Create an environment of continuous quality improvement and professional development, ensuring that the delivery of care is regularly reviewed and that the service developments are implemented when necessary. 2.Provide higly specialist clinical advice and proven expertise to ensure that the best practice is promoted and delivered to reduce the risk to patients, and that the safety of the patient journey is maximised. Work with the Neuro IR lead Nurse to develop training programmes which ensure continual professional development. Demonstrates expert knowledge of contemporary clinical practice and explores new ideas and introduces positive, evidence-based change in line with local and national initiatives. Negotiates or adapts patient care to provide solutions to complex and unusual problems, e.g. infection control outbreak and bed management. Ensures that patient focused values are fully considered in any service change or development Undertake Neuro IR nursing procedures in the delivery of patient care pre, during and post procedure, including scrubbing and circulator duties. Maintain accurate clinical observations of the patient and act accordingly. Have responsibility for the correct administration and custody of medicines according to Trust policy. Act as the patients advocate. Ensure compliance with the local delivery of infection control practice as defined by National recommendations and local policies. Create an environment that is fit for purpose in delivering safe and effective patient care and is responsive to the needs of patients and their carers recognising the importance of individual privacy and dignity. Ensure any concerns identified regarding safe delivery of care are raised with appropriate senior team. Be responsible for the investigation of clinical incidents, identification and implementation of improvements Responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of care and assisting in the interpretation of data relevant to the patients condition and progress. Participate in the control, storage and competent administration of drugs and treatments as prescribed according to the NMC guidelines and the Trusts Guidelines for the Safe and Secure Handling of Medicines. Change care plans and goals according to evaluation and discussion with the multidisciplinary team. Demonstrate skills in the care and management of the critically ill patient. Work closely with all members of the care team to ensure the needs of the critically ill patient are met. Carry Nurse leaddischarge when appropriate. Maintain accurate documentation to facilitate the continuity of care for patients transferred to other areas. Liaise with nursing and clerical staff to enable efficient administration on ward or within department. Act with kindness and courtesy to all members of the public. Be aware of essential procedures and take appropriate action in the event of cardiac arrest, fire or major incident. Ensure practice is evidence based and is in line with local policies and procedures. Management Responsible for ensuring nursing staffing levels are appropriate to the safe delivery of service and escalate to divisional managers if minimum staffing levels are not met. Ensure processes are in place to ensure that effective communication processes are established with all disciplines, patients and relatives, that meets individual needs. Assist with leading team meetings, record attendance, feedback & outcomes and actively involve members of the team to contribute with innovative ideas on how the planning and organisation of work can improve the patients journey. Be responsible daily for making optimum use of the departmental skill mix. Be responsible for the day to day management and allocation of junior nursing staff promoting a culture of positive discipline. This includes supporting individual staff members with professional development needs within the formal appraisal process, agreeing and setting appropriate time bound action points to encourage development. Be responsible for adhering to relevant HR policies. Assist with monitoring of sickness and absence of team members within their work area and reporting trends as appropriate. Support and keep the team involved and motivated in service improvement initiatives utilising suggestions from the team. Work in collaboration with facilities staff to ensure high standards of environmental cleanliness this includes the maintenance of effective cleaning of equipment. Contribute to service development, delivery and business. Lead orattend case conferences and multi-disciplinary meetings as indicated. Maintain appropriate patient/service records and monitor the standards of those of the team. Adhere to all local standard operating procedures and policies. Contributes to the induction, management and development of team members. Responsible for overseeing adequate provision of specialist equipment. Understand the wider departmental and organisational aims and priorities by engaging positively with the service and its users.
