Summary
The Export Control Joint Unit’s work is increasingly at the forefront of the government response to high-profile geopolitical crises (including the response to the current situation in the Middle East), and critical economic and security strategy (including responding to security challenges of new technologies while supporting UK exporters in key sectors). The Strategic Projects team has been established to provide high paced and high quality solutions to many of the emerging problems we face. The remit of the Strategic Projects team covers three core areas (i) Crisis Response – ensuring that ECJU has the tools and policies in place to react swiftly emerging crises, and manage ongoing ones, (ii) Data Insights – ensuring we drive better decision making across all of ECJU’s functions by creating robust and dependable insights, (iii) Strategic Stakeholder Engagement – working with wider teams in ECJU and DBT to identify key stakeholder groups and tackle issues they may raise.
The successful candidate will be expected to operate across the unit, but especially to lead the Data Insights function to bring together available data sources, advise on new systems and processes, as well as taking forward early recommendations to fruition. Using a high level of data literacy, they will work closely with analysts to develop new ways of procuring insights from Export Licensing systems and stakeholders, and will lead on delivering recommendations that are expected to have a high impact on the work of the unit. In addition, the role holder will lead individual projects in the Stakeholder function, and may be drawn into the Crisis Response function should circumstances change,
This will involve a high degree of problem solving, working with others to learn the art of the possible in relation to historic data and future systems design, and identifying ways in which we can increase the connections between our key stakeholders and our teams.
The role-holder will be expected to:
- Work with analysts to create dashboards with historic data and draw lessons/recommendations ECJU can implement to make its processes and utility more effective.
- Work with Digital and System designers to embed effective Management information into newly designed systems.
- Collaborate with FCDO, MOD and HMRC in ensuring holistic views of problems and opportunities.
- Collaborate with DBT teams to identify shared problems and advise on the implementation of potential solutions.
- Engage with External stakeholders to take feedback on current processes, and provide robust challenge to the status quo.
- Be flexible as to the shape and scope of their work, and react to changing events and expectations.
