Summary

Job Summary - Working within the Technical Strategy and Operations Engineering team, you will provide efficient solutions to the development of electronics design projects, primarily for a research project in the Geography Department focussed on CO2 capture in pasture. Primarily the role is focused on instrumentation and control, with the role holder having a strong knowledge and experience of integrating sensors and electro-mechanical devices instrumentation and control systems. This role includes a practical element and therefore you need to be experienced making and modifying components using hand and power tools. You should also have an awareness of process plant and low pressure hydraulic and pneumatic systems. Secondary to this, you will support smaller electrical projects and the electrical repair of equipment for colleagues. You will be highly motivated and driven graduate electronics engineer who is looking to develop, support and contribute to the success and quality of our research. Working on all stages of tasks, from research and development, to design and manufacture, through to installation and final commissioning. This role is part of the Graduate Business Partnership (GBP) scheme and is for full time hours (36.5 per week) from June 2025 to May 2027. You will work from the Streatham Campus in Exeter. About You – You should be a graduate who has skills in construction of material models, structures or rigs for experimental work, in application and testing of instrumentation sensors, such as flowmeters and solenoid valves, and evidence based knowledge and experience on testing regimes. You should be able to carry out maintenance and servicing on equipment within the area of responsibility and complete maintenance records accordingly, be able to provide documentation, detailed instructions, drawings, and/or specifications, and be able to conduct Health and Safety practices and record documentation. You should also be able to design, develop, construct, test, modify or use production electronic parts, devices, equipment and systems that operate primarily based on electronics principles. Working primarily with data acquisition and control systems for research and teaching purposes, designed to customer requirements. You should have the ability to work in a team and also independently for intermittent periods, have good attention to detail, have a proactive attitude to personal and professional development and a willingness to undertake training. You should also be competent in programming in Python and Arduino IDE, have experience using Arduino’s, Raspberry Pi’s, or similar devices, and knowledge of PCB borad design and Solidworks experience.

GBP Scheme Requirements
To be eligible to apply and undertake a GBP role the graduate must meet all of the following criteria:
*To undertake a graduate role through the GBP scheme, you must have either achieved your degree or be in your final year at any UK-based university.
*If you are in your final year, your working hours may be reduced to 15 hours per week (for undergraduates) or 6 hours per week (for postgraduates) to ensure you have the capacity to successfully complete your degree. More hours can be completed if your academic agrees and provides written confirmation.
*If you do not pass your degree, the GBP role will end early.
*You must have graduated in the UK within the last 3 years of your most recent degree (we will consider extenuating circumstances of potential applicants that may have prevented them from undertaking a graduate role within 3 years of graduation).
