Summary

The successful candidate will hold a key role in the TV Team, which is responsible for public service broadcasting, the regulation of the TV sector and how government supports the whole TV ecosystem.

The average person in the UK spends 4½ hours every day watching TV and other forms of video content – seeking information, entertainment or social connection. The sector therefore forms a critical part of UK society, democracy and its creative industries.

The TV Team sits within the wider Media and International Directorate (MINT) which covers a broad range of work including: the BBC, radio, press, and advertising; as well as having a key role leading the department’s international work.

We pride ourselves on our inclusive and respectful team environment, with ample opportunities to get involved in corporate work such as our social committee and staff networks. Our staff survey scores show positive engagement in all areas, with a high level of interest in our work.

The successful candidate will lead the strategy team responsible for the Government’s work to address the impact of the rapidly changing media sector, as audiences increasingly move to consume content and news online. These changes are having major impacts on society, democracy and the economy, and require DCMS to consider how the policy framework should keep pace.

As well as providing strategic leadership across all these issues, your team will have specific responsibilities for key areas of cross-cutting policy development. You will need to work closely with a wide range of other teams, including the Radio, Advertising and Press team, across government, Ofcom and wider stakeholders to successfully build a shared sense of purpose and cohesive work programme.

This is a stretching role, with the policy area attracting significant interest within government and from stakeholders, and will suit an individual excited by the prospect of being able to translate big issues facing society into a tangible programme of work and galvanise stakeholders into action.
