Summary

The main duties of the post will include:
1. The duties of the post, some of which will require physical effort such as standing for long periods, walking distances, climbing stairs, bending, stretching and lifting, pushing and pulling and using cleaning and maintenance equipment and driving university transport, will include the following:
2. Removing rubbish and recycling from buildings, external bins and collection points. All rubbish and recycling transported to compactor or other appropriate receptacle using a motorised vehicle where available.
3. Sorting waste materials and using industrial equipment within the University waste compound such as the bailer and compactor. Upkeep of the compound ensuring that hygiene standards and health and safety requirements are maintained.
4. The safe clearance and disposal of sharps and other hazardous waste.
5. Cleaning of external floor surfaces such as pathways using mechanical cleaning equipment where necessary.
6. Cleaning of small external structures such as signs and shelters using reach and wash system.
7. Cleaning of windows throughout the University including academic/administrate estate and the student residences using reach and wash systems.
8. Providing portering services, ensuring that requests are completed accurately, in a timely manner whilst maintaining high levels of customer service.
9. Driving of University owned vehicles, transporting goods off site and between campuses as and when required. This will include refuelling and charging of the vehicles.
10. Conduct regular health and safety checks including vehicle inspections, legionella flushing and equipment checks.
11. Responsible for ensuring faults/defects, within the academic/administrative and student residences are reported to the Team Clean Supervisor in a timely manner.
12. Operate and maintain commercial/industrial cleaning equipment such as scrubber driers, reach and wash systems and pressure washing equipment.
13. Use mobile phone/tablet apps for charging electric vans, conducting health and safety checks and processing work instructions linked to the University’s facilities management system.
14. Snow & ice clearance as per the requirements of the University’s Snow and Ice Policy.
15. Attendance of all necessary training as required by the role.
16. Ensuring that Health and Safety guidelines are followed at all times.
17. Assisting with the training and mentoring of new and temporary members of staff within the team
18. Flexibility in relation to University key events such as Arrivals Day, Visit Days, student ‘move out’ days, Graduation, summer conference season and Christmas rubbish collection,
19. Support cleaning operations within the academic/administrative and student residences when required.
20. Any other such duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Soft FM Services Manager or his/her nominee.
