Summary

What skills and experience we're looking for

We are looking to appoint a dynamic, committed and enthusiastic teacher to support the transition of our pupils from Year 6 into 7 specialising in English. This is an exciting position which aims to bridge the gap between primary and secondary school to support the progress of Year 7 pupils by giving them a ‘flying start’ to secondary education.

We are keen to appoint individuals with a positive outlook and a proactive attitude – colleagues who enrich the lives of the learners and staff with whom they work. We place great store on leadership development at all levels and offer a whole range of opportunities for colleagues to develop their leadership potential within and beyond Sharples School. A TLR responsibility may be offered for an exceptional candidate.

This post would suit an experienced KS2 teacher with experience in Y5 and Y6 teaching, and involves teaching English and reading to Year 7 pupils to ensure their smooth transition into the school. It may also include teaching Y8 intervention groups.

What the school offers its staff

Sharples School Multi-Academy Trust is an over-subscribed mixed comprehensive with over 1,200 pupils on roll, situated in the North of Bolton in pleasant surroundings. The school provides stimulating and innovative opportunities for learning, transforming the aspirations and educational outcomes for all students and the local community. After previously being graded Good in 2019, Sharples was judged as ‘significantly improved in all areas’ at its last inspection in January 2025.

As a valued member of the Sharples family, you will have access to a range of generous employee benefits, including the Teachers Pension scheme, on-site staff car-parking, access to the ‘Vivup’ employee assistant programme and other wellbeing incentives and CPD opportunities.
