Summary


The band 6 vascular specialist nurse specialist plays a key role in the vascular service for the Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes network (BLMK). The post holder will use their knowledge of vascular disease and experience in nursing to support all members of the multi-professional team to achieve the highest standards of care for vascular patients.

The main aim of the post is to strengthen the vascular care and management in clinical practice, supporting all members of the multi-disciplinary team to enhance the experience for vascular patients within the organisation.

As a band 6 vascular nurse specialist you will be supported to develop skills and expertise in order to become an independent practitioner. This will be through training and support from the vascular nurse specialist team and the vascular team.

Clinical

· To support the vascular team in the management of vascular inpatients to enhance the experience of the vascular patient through their relevant pathway.

· facilitate and support the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care pathways for vascular patients in line with research based evidence.

· To provide psychological and emotional support, advice, information and health education to all vascular patients and their families during diagnosis, treatment and recovery periods. This will involve the utilisation of excellent communication skills to communicate sensitive or confidential information with empathy

· To support clinical staff with specialist advice for the management of vascular patients

· Assist with the assessment of peripheral arterial disease

· Assist and provide complex wound care management for vascular patients. This will include VAC therapy and compression bandaging

· To support patients in the community referred to the vascular team. This will include acting as a link between services including amputee support, wound advice, lifestyle education and smoking cessation.

· Act as a contact for patients post discharge to minimise readmissions, complaints and concerns.
