Summary

The Strategy Unit (SU) sits at the heart of DCMS and oversees cross-cutting policy, legislation and fiscal events. We are a friendly, supportive and high performing team of around 35 people, leading on departmental strategy, working with teams and senior leaders across the department to develop long-term plans that meet our Ministers’ ambitions.

These roles will sit in SU’s newly formed Insight & Foresight Team. It’s an exciting time to join as the team begins its journey to help the department identify and meet the challenges and opportunities of the next decade.

You will research and analyse data, trends and intelligence to enable evidence-based policy and strategy decisions, and to provide advice and challenge on DCMS’s long-term approach. You will lead or support policy colleagues to explore or act on the implications of your findings.

These roles will suit someone who is passionate about developing future-resilient policy, is a critical and analytical thinker and enjoys delving into and making sense of complex trends and data.

We are looking for two self-motivated, resilient strategic thinkers with strong analytical skills. The successful candidates will work hand-in-hand: the ‘Insight’ role bringing extra analytical power to the Strategy Unit, working closely with DCMS’s Strategic Analysis and Data Science Unit; the ‘Foresight’ role providing similar strengths in research and analysis, with a keen interest in futures disciplines. You will:

  • Research and analyse trends to produce insight/foresight products and reports. Work with other Government Departments and DCMS Analysts to draw together data, evidence and intelligence.
  • Lead on the Strategy Unit’s analytical workplan and priority questions, working closely with DCMS analysts to drive insight.
  • Advise on the long-term policy considerations for our departmental strategy and cross-cutting policy work.
  • Collaborate and build strong relationships. Lead or support teams to conduct explorations or short policy sprints to act on findings, facilitating workshops with teams and/or senior leaders (e.g. visioning, scenarios).
  • Use comms and engagement to advocate, inspire and influence others to consider and act upon long-term trends and possibilities.
  • Work creatively to set direction and iterate an insight and foresight offer which best meets the needs of the department.
  • Where required, support the wider team as priorities emerge.
