General Dynamics Land Systems is on the look-out for a full-time Production Support Quality Engineer to join our Engineering Team, based in Merthyr, South Wales. The successful and inclusive candidate will earn a favourable salary of £36,000 to £45,000 based on experience and potential. This is an ideal role for someone who has a proactive and positive mindset and a keen desire to grow professionally. Joining an established team, the successful candidate will support the production, integration and testing of activities at the GDUK Merthyr facility. The role will require close liaison and co-operation with the Engineering, supply chain and Manufacturing teams.A key aspect of the role is supporting non-conformity management and working with various stakeholders to develop root cause and appropriate corrective actions to resolve the issue while deploying effective containment to support the programme. This role may require travel to locations as and when required. If you were already working in this position, this is what you would have been working on this week:- Lead and drive production non-conformances into RCCA A3 format to drive out quality issues
- Undertake as part of a cross functional team the analysis of non-conformances identified during production to ensure that problems are addressed and appropriate corrective action is taken. To establish trends and root cause analysis. Feedback any subcontractor supplied non-conformance
- Undertake as part of a cross functional team the generation and management of PFMEAs.
- Ensure that Non-conforming products, services and processes are investigated and audit the effectiveness of the corrective and preventive actions.
- Develop new processes when required as well as support the tailoring of existing processes to suit the programme and contractual needs.
- Liaison and work with managers and peers in other support functions as appropriate to the Production Quality activities.
- Support/advice to Production Managers, Engineering and other business areas as required.
- Attendance at selected key reviews in accordance with agreed plans
- Customer liaison and representing the department, the presentation of data, on site and at customer sites
- Promote quality awareness
- Prepare weekly and monthly production quality metrics and reports, for internal and external purposes.
- Duties as required to support business needs
- Solid root cause investigation experience is essential – A3/8D/5Y
- HNC (minimum) Formal qualification in an Engineering/Quality discipline
- Ability to interact on providing mechanical solutions
- Experience of working in a manufacturing environment
- Experience/knowledge of PFMEA as Control Plans.
- Experience of Fabricated Vessels and assemblies
- Use of FARO arm and/or CMM
- Knowledge of Welding standards and ability to inspect
- Good knowledge of ISO9001:2015.
- Conversant with Microsoft programs (Excel, Office, PowerPoint & Visio)
- Ability to interpret assembly drawings
- Conversant with 3D CAD (Creoview, Pro E)
- Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and presentation.
- Hold or be capable of holding security clearance up to the level of Secret
- Must be flexible in terms of working hours and shifts, willing to travel within and outside the UK
- Quality Engineering Experience.
- Internal Auditor experience qualified. preferable but not essential
- A strong background in military vehicle systems engineering.
- Familiarity with current British Army tracked and wheeled vehicles.
- Experience of working within a multi-cultural and multi-lingual engineering team.
- Broad knowledge of standards and legislation applicable to military platforms
