Summary

As the accountable role leading safety across the property portfolio, this senior management position will be responsible for making decisions for health and safety compliance matters on behalf of the Deputy Director for Health and Safety. This role is key in supporting the design, plan, build and implementation of our portfolio. Supporting the cultural transformation specifically in the assurance of all property health & safety requirements and risk management. This role is critical to the continued success of Defra Group Property (DgP) as it develops the health & safety management system and continues to improve our safety culture and compliance across our portfolio.

Significant focus will be on the Science Facilities estate and engagement with leaders, stakeholders, employees and visitors. This post will be the point of contact for Technical Services team and programmes such as National Biosecurity Centre Programme as it relates to health and safety property risks and issues. The post will manage and draw on expertise from specialists in subjects such as CDM, fire safety and biocontainment.

The post will lead the Property Health and Safety team which consists of the Weybridge Health and Safety Team and the DgP Property Safety Team. They will be instrumental in the creation and delivery of the annual plan; reporting of MI and assurance information, developing and maintaining suitable and sufficient H&S management arrangements; and responding to property related incidents.

The post will also undertake the role of the main point of contact and subject matter expert for all property health and safety matters, providing specialist expertise, advice and challenge as required, balanced with welcoming and responding to views and challenges of others.
