Summary
What skills and experience we're looking for
The Norton Knatchbull School is looking for a full-time Teacher of Spanish. This is a permanent position. We welcome applicants from either selective or wide ability settings, who are keen to work with high achieving and motivated students. The successful applicant will be expected to have experience of teaching Spanish up to and including A Level. The ability to teach French to at least KS3 would be an advantage, although not a requirement. This post is suitable for an ECT or equally a more experienced colleague looking for a new challenge. We are looking for an excellent classroom practitioner with a genuine passion for languages and a willingness to contribute to the cultural and extracurricular life of the department — someone keen to help us raise the profile of MFL across the school and support students in feeling proud of their language learning journey.
Students at NKS start their language learning journey in Year 7 choosing between French or Spanish. They can then carry on studying this language on a 5-year path all the way to GCSE – whilst we expect most of our students to progress with EBACC subjects, from September 2025 this will no longer be mandatory. Although still small, our A level cohorts have been growing in numbers in the last few years and it is our priority to increase the uptake. We follow the Edexcel specification for both GCSE and A level.
What the school offers its staff
The Modern Foreign Languages department at Norton Knatchbull is small yet very well-resourced. We approach the teaching of languages through well-planned lessons that interweave EPI activities with explicit grammar and vocabulary instruction.
There is a collaborative spirit within the team, with colleagues regularly exchanging ideas and resources to support one another and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
NKS is committed to the Continuing Professional Development of all our staff. We support our employees in career development and respect initiative and ambition. As such we are committed to using Performance Management; formal and informal training; coaching and mentoring; and peer support to ensure the progression of our staff. In return we expect commitment and a desire to improve and excel from our colleagues.
Commitment to safeguarding
The Norton Knatchbull School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The post is subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure.
